How Much Do Night Guards Cost?
Custom night guards can range from $300-$800 on average. Some insurance companies may help cover the cost of night guards, but it will depend on your specific provider and plan.
Can I Wear a Pre-Made Generic Night Guard?
While non-custom night guards are cheaper than custom night guards, we don’t recommend them for severe cases of bruxism. Because they are not fitted to your teeth, they won’t be as comfortable and can cause your teeth to shift. They will also not last as long as custom night guards, and are generally not as safe to wear while sleeping.
When Will I Notice Results From My Night Guard?
The night guard will start working the first night you use it, in that it will prevent you from grinding your teeth throughout the night. Improvements in bruxism or TMJ disorder pain will depend on your individual situation. You may notice less pain the first day you wake up, or it could take longer for the pain to resolve.
Will My Night Guard Be Uncomfortable?
You may experience some irritation and discomfort when you begin wearing your night guard while sleeping. Expect it to feel a little strange at first, but in time you should get used to it.
You should not experience pain while wearing your night guard. This can be caused by ill-fitting night guards, such as generic ones that are not custom-made for your mouth. If your night guard is causing pain, contact your dentist.
How Long Will I Have to Wear a Night Guard?
The amount of time you need to wear your night guard depends on your personal scenario. Mostly, we’ll want to be sure that you’re no longer at risk of teeth grinding and clenching. Ideally, you will no longer be experiencing the stress and anxiety that caused your bruxism to start.
