Our Children’s Dentistry Services
Trips to the dentist can be nerve-wracking for the entire family, but they don’t have to be. Our pediatric dentists at Flagship Dental will ensure that your kids are feeling safe and comfortable during their time with us – whether it’s their first visit or their fiftieth.
The oral health of you and your family is our first priority. We know that each child requires unique and individualized care. At Flagship Dental, we value your trust and confidence in us as your pediatric dentist. We have provided exceptional care for several families in Surrey and Langley throughout the years.
What to Expect At Your Child’s First Dental Appointment
Would you believe that family dentist visits can also be fun? Whether they want a spin in the chair or get a prize for opening their mouth wide so the pediatric dentist can take a look at their teeth, we want your kids to have positive memories at our office.
During your child’s first visit, if they’re ready for the full experience, we will:
- Chat with you about your child’s medical and oral history
- Conduct a thorough dental examination and cleaning
- Take dental x-rays if necessary
It’s best to instill good oral hygiene habits early, as it will affect their oral health when they’re adults. We’ll never force your kids to do anything they aren’t comfortable with, and we will regularly check in with them throughout the appointment. We will also adjust treatments to meet your child’s needs and what works best for them.
FAQs About Children’s Dentistry
It’s normal to feel anxious about bringing your children to the dentist, especially if it is their first appointment. Here are some frequently asked questions about pediatric dentistry that parents have brought up.
How old should my child be before coming in for a dental checkup?
It can be too stressful for a child to come in for an appointment too early. We recommend that children come in at around two years old – when they have enough teeth and may be less scared or confused about what is going on during a dental cleaning.
How can I help my child feel more comfortable?
The best way to help your child feel comfortable at the dentist is to model the attitude you want them to have. By remaining calm and relaxed throughout the appointment, parents can put their children at ease. It may also be helpful to describe what will happen during each step of the appointment. Our pediatric dentists can assist you with this if you’re unsure of what to say to your child.
How can I clean baby teeth and gums?
Before even coming in for their first dental visit, good oral hygiene for your kids starts at home. You can brush your baby’s teeth with toothbrushes that are designed for infants, which are available at most local drugstores. You can also gently pat the gums with a soft, damp, cloth after your child has eaten.
