Tooth Fillings

About Our Tooth Filling Services

If your teeth have been damaged by tooth decay, you’ll likely need a filling to repair it. Before a filling is placed, the decay is removed and the area surrounding the tooth is cleaned. By filling a gap left from tooth decay with an artificial material, the tooth filling will prevent bacteria from entering your tooth and causing more damage.

About Tooth-Colored Fillings

Ever seen someone yawn and spotted dark tooth fillings in their mouth? Those days are gone, thanks to modern dental technology.

There are several materials we use at Flagship Dental for tooth fillings. Every patient is different and the filling we choose will depend on factors such as where the decay is located in your mouth, the extent of the decay, and whether you are allergic to any materials. Here are some of the pros and cons of different tooth fillings.

  • Tooth-colored porcelain fillings are a seamless way to treat cavities that blend in well with the teeth in your mouth. The porcelain mimics your natural teeth in colour and texture.
  • Composite resin fillings are created to resemble your natural teeth. It is a great alternative if you are allergic to any metals. However, these fillings can be stained by any food that you eat and last around three to ten years. Since it isn’t the most durable filling, it is usually not recommended for treating large areas of decay.
  • Traditional gold fillings can last up to 20 years and usually don’t cause any adverse reactions with your gum tissue. While many people do like the aesthetic look of a gold filling, it is the most expensive material to use.

    Cost of Tooth Fillings

Since tooth fillings can be made from a range of materials, the cost can vary based on the material you choose, the number of teeth you need filled, the number of surfaces each tooth needing a filling has, and the amount an insurance provider will cover. Typically, the average price of a dental filling in Surrey is between $160 (the minimum for an adult tooth) to $400 (the maximum for an adult tooth). All of our services are charged according to the BC fee guide issued from BCDA. Check out our latest blog post to learn more.

    FAQs About Dental Crowns

Never gotten a filling before? Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we receive from patients.

Will I experience any pain while getting a filling?

You shouldn’t be experiencing any pain while getting a filling, but do let the dentist know if you are experiencing any pain or discomfort during the process at any time.

How long will it take to get a filling?

Dental fillings are a quick and painless procedure that typically doesn’t take any longer than 30 to 40 minutes. You’ll get back to living your life in no time.

How do I care for my tooth fillings?

Keep in mind that you may experience some tooth sensitivity after getting a dental filling. But caring for a new filling is easy-peasy – just keep up with your regular oral hygiene routine by brushing and flossing regularly and seeing your dentist on a regular basis.

As time goes by, some fillings may need to be replaced, which is part of a filling’s normal wear and tear. If you experience any sensitivity in the area where you had the filling as the years go by, let your dentist know and they will walk you through any next steps.
