About Wisdom Tooth Extraction
Wisdom teeth are also known as our “third molars” that come in later than the rest of our adult teeth. While there was once a time in human history where we used these molars, that’s not the case anymore.
Not only do we not need them, but many people’s mouths don’t have room for them! In this case, our dental professionals may recommend a wisdom tooth extraction to surgically remove them. About 85 percent of people need to have their wisdom teeth extracted during their lifetime.
Some people don’t ever get wisdom teeth, but those who do will have between 1 and 4 of these extra molars. When there is not enough room for them to emerge to the surface, this is what’s known as impacted wisdom teeth.
Whether your wisdom teeth are impacted or not, they may still need to be extracted. Flagship Dental will evaluate the status of your wisdom teeth and determine if extraction is necessary.
Why Do Wisdom Teeth Need to Be Removed?
Wisdom teeth can cause several oral health issues that are preventable with extraction.
Impacted wisdom teeth may cause symptoms such as:
- Swollen and bleeding gums
- Bad breath
- Pain in the jaw and face
- Swelling
- Cysts and infection
Even wisdom teeth that have fully erupted to the surface of your gums can create problems later on. They can cause your teeth to shift and can collect bacteria as they are usually difficult to clean. For these reasons, we may still recommend a wisdom tooth removal.
The Cost of Wisdom Tooth Extractions in BC
The cost of wisdom tooth removal in the BC area will depend on if the tooth is emerged or impacted. For emerging wisdom teeth, cost will range from $100-$300 per tooth. Impacted teeth may range from $300-$500+ per tooth.
It is worth the price for the sake of your short and long term oral health. We recommend reviewing your insurance plan or contacting your provider to determine how much of the cost will be covered.

Flagship Dental will apply local anesthetic to make sure your mouth and gums are fully numb so that your surgery is pain-free.
How Long Will Surgery Take?
Though it will depend on how many wisdom teeth we are removing as well as your dental anatomy, you can expect the extraction to take between 40 and 90 minutes.
How Painful Is Wisdom Tooth Extraction?
While the removal surgery will not be painful in itself, you may experience some discomfort post-surgery. We will make recommendations to help make you more comfortable as you heal from surgery.
How Long Will Recovery Take?
